***In summary –  There is approximately less than a $100/ year price difference for a $500,000 – 20 year term  life insurance policy between Voya Financial (ING-ReliaStar Life) & Principal National Life.  With the prices relatively equal, the differences lie in the underwriting guidelines.  For example, Voya Financial (ING-ReliaStar Life) does not consider a family history of cancer.  Principal National Life has much more extensive family history guidelines which include cancer.  Keep in mind your exact cost will depend on your approved health class.  See underwriting guidelines below***

Cholesterol: Ages 16-60 – Treated or untreated – Cholesterol Max 300.  Maximum HDL Ratio  Male 5.0 / Female 4.5.   Ages 61+ Treated or untreated – Cholesterol Max 300.  Maximum HDL Ratio Male 6.0 / Female 5.5.  Minimum Serum Albumin Male 4.0 / Female 3.9

Family History: Ages 16-60 – No cardiovascular deaths in parents prior to age 65.

Tobacco:  No tobacco or nicotine use for 5 years.

Driving Record: Ages 16-70 – No DWI/DUI or reckless driving in the past 5 years and no more than 2 moving violations within the past 3 years.  Age 71+ – No history of accidents, reckless driving, or revocation of license in past 10 years.

Blood Pressure: Use insurance exam average if no hypertension treatment. Use 12 month average if hypertension history. Cannot exceed: 140/83 at ages 20-44.  145/85 at ages 45-64.  150/90 at ages 65-85.

Cholesterol: Medication may be disregarded.  No super preferred if Cholesterol/HDL is 5.0+.

Family History: Includes parents & siblings.  Cardiovascular defined as: Coronary Artery Disease, Peripheral Vascular Disease, Stroke and Transient Ischemic Attack.  No death prior to age 65 of: Cardiovascular Disease – Breast Cancer – Colon Cancer – Ovarian Cancer – Prostate Cancer – Diabetes.  Disregard cancer of opposite sex except for colon cancer.  Family history not considered for applicants aged 71+.

Tobacco: Tobacco use includes any tobacco or nicotine product (i.e. cigar, patch, gum & marijuana) – No tobacco use for past five years to qualify for Super Preferred.
